Goin’ to the chapel and we’re gonna get vintage…

Betrothed couples and vintage lovers in Nova Scotia, rev your engines for a retro-filled road trip to Wolfville, where Pearl’s Vintage & Thrift, Millie’s Modern Vintage and Daisy Roots Vintage are hosting a vintage wedding–themed event Mar. 5 and 6 at the Wolfville Wedding Chapel.

The Wolfville Wedding Chapel Vintage Pop-Up will offer a curated selection of wedding dresses from “classic and simple to the wild and outrageous,” says Eilidh MacDonald, owner of Pearl’s Vintage & Thrift, via email to The Vintage Seeker.

MacDonald and fellow vintage slingers Wendy Kennedy (Millie’s Modern Vintage) and Emma Jones (Daisy Roots Vintage) are also bringing racks of wedding-guest outfits, suits, kids’ gear, lingerie, furs, hats, purses and jewellery to fill out the venue.

“Some of the outfits we’ve curated are very much of the Elvis era and Vegas-inspired, just like the chapel,” says MacDonald.

Chapel owner Sarah Anderson, also the creator of East Coast Pop-Up Weddings, opened the space in 2021 to cater to small-scale weddings. The venue evokes the in-and-out chapels scattered across Las Vegas and hosts intimate turnkey wedding ceremonies and elopements for a maximum of 60 minutes.

“They make your dream wedding affordable and unique,” says MacDonald. “With this vintage pop-up, we plan to do the same. It’s a one-stop shop for one-of-a-kind pieces that won’t break the bank, so you can have your special day your way.”

MacDonald first visited the chapel for her brother’s wedding in fall 2021, where she met Anderson. “We all had so much fun and loved the space and energy,” she says.

The venue’s in-house photo booth, vintage-inspired couch, neon lights, Elvis bust, disco balls and cheetah decor are an ideal backdrop not only for a wedding, but also for a retro-glam shopping event. So when Anderson expressed interest in holding a vintage pop-up in her stylish 20-seat space, “the wheels started turning,” MacDonald says.

“It’s pretty amazing to have such a unique place like this in Nova Scotia. It just pairs so well with the kind of vintage clothing we want to collect and share with people. It feels like a perfect match.”

MacDonald, who runs a storefront for Pearl’s Vintage & Thrift in Lunenburg, N.S., has been collaborating on pop-ups with Millie’s Modern Vintage owner Wendy Kennedy, who sells online out of Lunenburg, over the past several months.

Daisy Roots Vintage is based in Wolfville and operated as a bricks-and-mortar location near the chapel until earlier this month, when it became an online-only shop.

‍

“Our mutual love for the 1970s definitely shines through in the items we’ve selected [for the event],” says MacDonald. “And Daisy Roots has pieces from the 1930s to the 1970s in beautiful silks and natural fibres. Between the three vendors, we have pieces for any type of wedding you can imagine.”

The organizers are running a giveaway on Instagram ahead of the event, offering $150 in gift cards to Daisy Roots, Pearl’s and Millie’s, access to early-bird shopping on Mar. 5 and a $50 gift card to area coffee shop JustUs Coffee.

“We hope people will find some items on their wish list and treasures for their special day,” says MacDonald. “Even if you have no weddings coming up and you love vintage, this is still the event for you.”
