Who's looking out for the vendor in a secondhand transaction? Sellers get real about physical safety, online scams and the risks of running a vintage business

‍

The risks vintage vendors face don't fit into one category. At a busy outdoor market, it might be the cash in your apron or the inventory you can't watch all at once. Or maybe it's a rude customer who starts making what sound like threats.

‍

Online, it might be the overpayment scam in your DMs, a buyer whose identity you can't verify or worse, a stalker.

‍
Vintage vendors — many of them women, many of them working alone — are largely left to figure this out themselves.

‍
In this member session, we got into specific examples vendors have dealt with. Sellers shared what they do with cash security, creating buddy systems and rehearsed statements for when a situation starts to turn.
